Rational Recovery - Rational Recovery (RR) is a source of counseling, guidance, and direct instruction on self-recovery from addiction to alcohol and other drugs through planned, permanent abstinence designed as an alternative to Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and 12 step programs.
Intervention (counseling) - An intervention is an orchestrated attempt by one, or often many, people (usually family and friends) to get someone to seek professional help with an addiction or some kind of traumatic event or crisis.

It is a form of addiction, where addiction is defined as "compulsive drug use despite negative consequences" (Am J Psychiatry 2005; 162:1414-1422).
